South Orissa Voluntary Action (SOVA) uses a holistic intervention approach to promote the best interest of disadvantaged communities with a particular focus on women and children in Koraput District.
Koraput is one of the districts in India with the lowest literacy levels, particularly for females and tribal communities. Child marriage and child labour are still issues to be addressed. SOVA takes an integrated approach addressing the complex challenges of the tribal communities. Education is the core focus of SOVAs Integrated Village Development Program along with child rights, livelihood security, gender equity, health and village governance. Interventions both at the pre-primary and primary levels of education essentially address components of access to and quality of education. To overcome the language barrier faced by tribal children, local dialects are the medium of instruction.
