Manuvikasa

Generating livelihoods for rural communities in Karnataka

women

Manuvikasa was established in 2003, with the aim of developing sustainable use of natural resources along with generating livelihoods for rural communities in the Uttara Kannada District of Karnataka State.
The main occupation of the population in Uttara Kannada District is agriculture. However, the conditions are not suitable for cultivation, which represents a significant challenge to the livelihood of local farmers. Manuvikasa addresses these challenges through developing Self Help Groups (SHGs), Joint Liability Groups (JLGs), microfinance schemes and cooperative business models, by that improving the economic condition of the affected rural communities. Manuvikasa’s programme has a special focus on generating livelihoods for rural women in Uttara Kannada District.
